Compress PDF
Reduce PDF file size while keeping text and images readable. Processed on an isolated server, for files up to 25 MB.
The Compress PDF tool reduces file size using secure processing on an isolated server, with compression levels that balance size and quality.
Processing uses Ghostscript with four explicit profiles — less, recommended, strong and extreme — with no generic settings. Each level adjusts image resolution and object optimization to deliver the best result.
This tool sends data to a server and needs a connection during processing. The worker attempts to remove temporary files after the task. Immediate deletion is not guaranteed if a failure occurs. When the server is temporarily busy, the tool falls back to local compression in the browser.
Savings vary by content: PDFs full of images and scans tend to shrink a lot, while mostly text- or vector-based documents are usually already optimized.
When to use it
- Shrinking a photo-heavy report before sending it by email.
- Compressing a portfolio to fit a form's upload limit.
Limitations
- Text- or vector-based PDFs may see little or no reduction.
- Aggressive compression can reduce the sharpness of images and scans.
Step by step
- Select the PDF you want to compress.
- Wait for processing on the isolated server.
- Download the compressed file and check the reduction percentage.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files stored on the server?
This tool sends data to a server and needs a connection during processing. The worker attempts to remove temporary files after the task. Immediate deletion is not guaranteed if a failure occurs.
Does compression lose quality?
It depends on the level. The tool aims for the best balance between size and quality, and text PDFs usually keep their sharpness.
Why did my PDF barely shrink?
Files that are mostly text or vector content are usually already optimized, so there is little to reduce.
