PDF to text

Extract text from digital PDFs and download a TXT file. Processing happens in your browser, without uploading the document.

Turn a digital PDF into plain text to copy passages, review documents or reuse information. Extraction runs in your browser without uploading the document to a server.

The tool reads the text layer on each page and combines the content into a TXT file. It works with PDFs exported from text editors, reports and other documents with selectable text.

The result retains text content but does not reproduce fonts, images or page layout. For documents with columns or tables, review the reading order before using the extracted text elsewhere.

If the PDF contains only photos or scanned pages, this tool cannot recognize the letters in those images. Apply OCR first. An empty TXT result can mean that the source document has no text layer.

When to use it

  • Copy passages from a report into a text editor for review.
  • Search for words in the extracted document content.
  • Reuse PDF text in notes or a new draft.

Limits and formats

  • Digital PDF input and plain TXT output, without images or formatting.
  • Up to 200 pages and 50 MB per file; complex documents may need more device memory.
  • No OCR. Columns, tables and line breaks may need manual review.

Step by step

  1. Select a PDF with selectable text.
  2. Click Extract text and wait for the pages to be read.
  3. Download the TXT file and check its content before reusing it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extract text from a scanned PDF?

This tool reads text already present in the PDF. Pages containing only images need OCR before extraction.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Reading the PDF and generating text happen in the browser on your device.

Does the TXT file keep tables and images?

No. TXT contains plain text. Images, fonts and layout are not preserved; review the reading order of tables and columns.

Why is the result empty?

The PDF may have no text layer. Check whether you can select words in the original. An image-only document needs OCR.
