About
Calculates Body Mass Index with WHO classification. Informational result, not a substitute for medical advice.
How to calculate BMI and understand the result
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a simple measure that relates weight and height to estimate whether a person is underweight, at a healthy weight, overweight, or obese. The UtilNexo calculator does the math and shows the BMI value.
The BMI formula is weight (kg) divided by height squared (m²). For example, a person weighing 70 kg at 1.75 m has a BMI of 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.9, within the healthy range.
To interpret the number, use the WHO reference ranges: below 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is healthy weight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight, and 30 or more is obesity. The tool gives you the BMI value so you can make that comparison.
Important: BMI does not distinguish muscle mass from fat. Athletes with a lot of lean mass can have a high BMI without excess fat. Therefore, the result is informational and does not replace an assessment by a health professional.
Examples
- 70 kg and 1.75 m → BMI 22.9.
- 85 kg and 1.70 m → BMI 29.4.
Limitations
- BMI does not account for body composition (muscle vs fat), age, sex, or fat distribution.
- This result is informational and does not constitute a diagnosis or medical advice. Consult a health professional.

Frequently asked questions
Is BMI valid for children?
For children and teens, interpretation uses growth curves by age and sex, different from the adult classification.
Do athletes have a reliable BMI?
Not always. Because BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, athletes can have an elevated result without excess fat.
Does BMI replace a medical appointment?
No. It is a quick screening; diagnosis and follow-up should be done by a health professional.
