About

Generates the MD5 hash of a text quickly and locally. Note: MD5 is not recommended for security — use SHA-256 for sensitive data.

What is MD5 and when to use the hash generator

The MD5 generator computes the 128-bit hash of a text, producing a fixed sequence of 32 hexadecimal characters. It is used to generate file fingerprints and verify data integrity.

A hash is a one-way function: from the text, a fixed value is generated, but it is infeasible to recover the original text from the hash. The same text always produces the same hash, and any minimal change yields a completely different result.

MD5 was widely used to store passwords and verify integrity, but today it is considered cryptographically broken, since collisions — two different texts producing the same hash — have been found.

For security cases, prefer SHA-256 or more modern algorithms. MD5 is still useful for non-critical checksums, such as detecting transfer errors in files or quickly comparing whether two contents are identical.

Examples

  • Input: "hello" → 5d41402abc4b2a76b9719d911017c592
  • Changing a single character yields a completely different hash, which makes detecting changes easy.

Limitations

  • MD5 is cryptographically broken: do not use it for passwords, signatures, or any security scenario.
  • Because it is deterministic, short and common texts can have their hashes precomputed in tables (dictionary attack).

How to use the MD5 generator

  1. 1Type or paste the text into the main field.
  2. 2Click Process to generate the hash.
  3. 3Copy the 32-character hash with one click.

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to reverse an MD5 hash?

Not directly. The hash is one-way. For short and common texts, however, it can be compared against precomputed tables.

Is MD5 safe for passwords?

No. Use password-specific algorithms like bcrypt or Argon2, which are slow and resistant to brute-force attacks.

Is my text sent to any server?

No. The calculation happens 100% in the browser, and your content never leaves the device.
