About

Compares two JSONs side by side and highlights the differences, useful for reviewing changes in configs and API responses.

What is a JSON comparator and how to use it

The JSON comparator analyzes two JSON documents and points out the differences between them: what was added, removed, or changed. It is essential for reviewing changes in API responses, configurations, and structured data.

When comparing two JSONs, the tool walks the structure of each and identifies where they diverge. The result clearly shows which keys exist on one side and not the other, and which values changed.

This is especially useful for understanding the impact of an API update, checking whether a deploy changed a configuration, or validating a system output against an expected result.

Comparison can be done by structure (ignoring key order, as the JSON standard does) or by plain text. The UtilNexo tool focuses on structural comparison, which is the most useful for most cases.

Examples

  • JSON A: {"name":"Ana","age":30} and JSON B: {"name":"Ana","age":31} → difference flagged in "age".
  • A key present on only one side is highlighted as added or removed.

Limitations

  • Comparison requires both JSONs to be valid; a broken JSON prevents analysis.
  • Key order does not matter (structural comparison), but item order in arrays does.

How to use the JSON comparator

  1. 1Paste the first JSON into field A.
  2. 2Paste the second JSON into field B.
  3. 3Click Process and see the highlighted differences.

Frequently asked questions

Does key order matter in the comparison?

No. Structural comparison treats objects as equal even with keys in a different order. Item order in arrays, however, is considered.

Is my data sent to any server?

No. Comparison happens 100% in the browser, and both JSONs never leave the device.

Does the comparator show exactly what changed?

Yes. It highlights added and removed keys and changed values, making each difference easy to review.
