About
Shows the image dimensions, MIME type, size and modification date, analyzed locally without sending the file.
How to safely view image metadata
The UtilNexo metadata viewer shows technical information about any image — file name, MIME type, size, dimensions, aspect ratio, and modification date — all processed locally in the browser, without sending the file anywhere.
Metadata is the information that accompanies an image file beyond the visible pixels. It helps you understand the format, weight, and dimensions of the file, which is essential for developers, designers, and anyone who needs to optimize images for web or print.
The tool uses the browser File API to read data directly from your machine. This means the image is never sent to a server: the analysis happens entirely on your computer, ensuring total privacy, even for personal photos or sensitive documents.
The aspect ratio is calculated by dividing width by height — such as 16:9 for videos, 4:3 for classic photos, or 1:1 for square posts. This helps predict how the image will behave on different screens and layouts.
Examples
- Photo 4032×3024 → aspect ratio 1.33:1 (4:3), type image/jpeg, size 3.2 MB.
- Icon 512×512 → aspect ratio 1.00:1 (square), type image/png, size 48 KB.
Limitations
- The tool reads only the basic metadata provided by the browser: name, MIME type, size, dimensions, aspect ratio, and modification date. It does not extract EXIF metadata, such as camera model, lens, GPS location, or capture date.
- The displayed modification date is the file's on-disk timestamp (lastModified), which reflects the last change to the file — not necessarily the date the photo was taken.
How to use the metadata viewer
- 1Drag an image onto the upload area or click to select.
- 2Wait for the local file read.
- 3See all metadata organized into cards.
Frequently asked questions
Is the image sent to any server?
No. The whole process happens locally in your browser. The file never leaves your computer.
Does the tool read EXIF or GPS data?
No. It only shows basic file metadata (format, size, dimensions, and date). Full EXIF data requires a dedicated reader.
What is the aspect ratio?
It is the relationship between image width and height, like 16:9, 4:3, or 1:1. It helps you know how the image adapts to different screen formats.
