About

Generates passphrases from random words, easy to remember and hard to crack. Local and no sign-up.

How to generate a secure passphrase

A passphrase is a password made of several random words, like "oak-postbox-violet-7". The UtilNexo generator creates passphrases that are easy to remember but hard to guess, following the Diceware-inspired method.

Unlike a password full of symbols, a passphrase trades confusing complexity for length. Because each word comes from a large list and is drawn randomly, entropy grows quickly with the number of words.

A four-word random passphrase is already considered strong for most uses. With five or six words, it becomes impractical to break by brute force, even with powerful computers.

The passphrase is generated locally with cryptographically secure randomness. Nothing is stored or sent, and each click creates a new word combination.

Examples

  • 4 words → "oak-postbox-violet-7".
  • 6 words → a longer combination, recommended for critical accounts.

Limitations

  • The passphrase is generated and shown only once; if you do not copy it, there is no way to recover it later.
  • Security depends on the words being truly random. Passphrases you invent yourself (like song lyrics) are far weaker.

How to use the passphrase generator

  1. 1Choose the number of words.
  2. 2Click Generate.
  3. 3Copy and store the passphrase in a password manager.

Frequently asked questions

Is a passphrase better than a password?

For most people, yes. It is easier to memorize and type, and length compensates for the lack of symbols.

How many words are enough?

Four random words are already strong for general use. For critical accounts, use five or six.

Should I separate the words?

The separator (hyphen, space, or dot) helps with reading and typing. Any consistent separator works.
