How to use
- 1Paste the IP address.
- 2Click Process.
- 3See if it is a valid IPv4/IPv6.
About
Validates the format and ranges of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, useful for networks and configurations.
How to validate an IP address correctly
The IP validator checks whether an address follows the IPv4 or IPv6 format, including the valid ranges of each octet. It helps configure networks, analyze logs, and validate technical form data.
IPv4 is made of four octets separated by dots, each between 0 and 255 (e.g., 192.168.0.1). IPv6 uses eight hexadecimal groups separated by colons, with abbreviation rules (e.g., 2001:db8::1).
The tool also classifies the address when possible, indicating whether it is public or private, loopback, or reserved. This helps quickly understand the role of an IP on a network.
Validating the format is different from checking the location or owner of the IP. An IP can be well formed and still not be in use, or belong to a private range that is not routable on the internet.
Examples
- 192.168.0.1 or 2001:db8::1 → valid.
- 999.1.1.1 or 192.168.0 → invalid (octet above 255 or incomplete groups).
Limitations
- Validation checks the format and range, but does not provide geolocation, provider, or whether the IP is active.
- IPv6 has equivalent representation forms; the tool accepts the compressed form, but exact equivalence may vary between implementations.
How to use the IP validator
- 1Type or paste the IP address into the main field.
- 2Click Process.
- 3See whether it is valid and, if possible, its classification.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a public and private IP?
Private IPs (like 192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x) work only on internal networks. Public IPs are routable on the internet and identify devices globally.
What is a loopback IP?
It is the address that points to the machine itself, like 127.0.0.1 (IPv4) or ::1 (IPv6), used in local testing.
Can I validate both IPv4 and IPv6?
Yes. The tool recognizes and validates both formats, and indicates which one was detected.
